Red Spots On Tongue

August 9, 2010

Red spots on tongue are small blood bumps that can be caused due to a variety of reasons like vitamin deficiencies, infections, allergic reactions, autoimmune diseases etc. The tongue is normally pinkish in color.

The color, texture and moisture of the tongue communicate a lot about the general health of an individual. Therefore changes in any of these aspects tend to indicate the presence of other diseases.

Red dots on the tongue often indicate inflammatory digestive system. Red blotches on tongue, on the other hand, may indicate a condition called Geographical Tongue.

Causes of Red Spots on Tongue

Some common causes of red spots on the tongue are vitamin B12 deficiency, yeast infection (like Oral Thrush), Oral Herpes, Kawasaki disease, Scarlet Fever and other such conditions. Kawasaki disease affecting blood vessels in the body is an autoimmune disease mostly occurring in small children.

It often leads to the development of large spots on tongue. In case of Scarlet fever, red dots on tongue tend to appear as a result of streptococcal infection. This contagious disease is also accompanied by strawberry tongue.

Individuals suffering from digestive ailments like Acid Reflux tend to have red bumps on tongue because of regurgitated liquid from the stomach. This liquid usually contains acids and pepsins.

Certain disorders of skin and taste buds can also give rise to this condition of tongue with red spots. At times, excess irritation on the surface of the tongue due to Eczema can encourage the growth and spread of oral bacterial infection thereby giving rise to this problem.

In case the red dots are caused because of vitamin deficiency then a healthy diet aimed at the inclusion of more vitamin B and iron rich foods is highly recommended to cure the condition. Shell fish, red meat, nuts, dried apricots and other such foods are highly beneficial in this regard.

Probiotic foods like yogurt help in fighting infections causing red dots on tongue. Moreover, rinse the mouth with a saline solution and maintain proper oral hygiene to prevent and cure common red spots on tongue.

Sorry to say but he probably did know what it was because something like that doesn’t go unnoticed expecially when its on yourself. He most likely had herpes and didn’t wanna say anything to you because its something no one wants to share with others, even their partner because its something emberassing and serious.

I have one red dot on my tongue. It is not painful but I know it is there. It kind of looks like a blood blister but not too big. I have been with the same man for 8 years and do not eat spicey food. I am a social smoker, Any clues as to what it is? Anyone?

Around 4 months ago, I noticed that there was a reddish mark on the tongue. Seen this I became a bit nervous and started scraping it with my finger and even with my teeth to find out what it was but couldn’t take it out then on the following day it was gone! Amazing it was no more.

Again another day the same thing appeared but I didn’t bother. Again just yesterday as I finished having dinner I felt that there was something on the left side of my tongue. I even told my wife that I might have got bitten my tongue and looked through the mirror to see – there was a red blood blister on my tongue and it is quite big. I got very scared and rushed to the doctor and by the time I sat near the Dr. to show it – there was nothing now only a tiny dot was left. It was gone! Dr. asked me to get a Full Blood Count. (FBC)

I have noticed the lack of taste from food. I can taste somewhat 5% of what I’m eating but the texture on most food is lost and feels somewhat rubbery. I noticed the small red dots on inspection on the outer circumference of my tongue. I am a very light smoker, but I did eat some very hot sauce a couple of days ago and I am unsure whether this sauce damaged my tongue of if their is another underlying problem.

Hi, I have red spots underneath portion of my tongue, I feel unpleasant while swallow that like something inside. Dr, gave me antibiotics and it is not gone. I do not eat pork and beef. I am working on one china ship. As Chinese tradition, Chef cook pork everyday. So I eat noodle and eggs about 5 months. I am a smoker. My engine room air-condition was broke down at duty for 10 days. After that i feel unpleasant as mention above and stomach upset also. Like rice do not go down and stay in my trout. After that i know, like several acne on my back of tongue. I was worried. Now I am worry also. But I stay calm down, cause everybody will die one day. So stay with God and keep your mind pure. Do for good things before you die. And meditation is the best doctor cure your disease. It can cure every kind of disease. Thanks.

I have two red spots on my tongue, only a little sore.

I’m a little scared it’s something worse cuz I have physical and mental deformaties and, in addition to that, some unfortunant ailments, some life threatening have occured in the recent past. My diet and exercise is consistant and healthy. Doc is having some bloodwork done. Lord, it’s just time and time again. Please, a little mercy, I’m only 23.
